Are you a book nerd? Do you read on y our lunch hour? Do you love to talk about books with friends and co-workers? Then yeah, you might be a book nerd. And what every book nerd needs is a Book Club.
Why, you ask?
Well, for starters, you get introduced to books you might not pick up on your own, and then you get to discuss the book you just read and that often leads to other topics that other book nerds love to discuss. All in all, it’s a win win situation.
As it turns out, I belong to one of the Best Book Clubs in Los Angeles as mentioned on The CBS Website.
What book club you might ask? Why, the LADA (Los Angeles Dumbledore’s Army) Book Club of course! The entire group is built of 21 and over nerds who celebrate and revere a book series (yes and the movies)!! Harry Potter is what brought us all together! So, it’s quite obvious everyone in this group likes to read (or listen to) books!
I have been a very proud member of the LADA, and the book club especially having been introduced to two new found favorite books: The Diviners by Libba Bray and The Shadow of the Wind, by Carlos Ruiz Zafon (both of which I reviewed for this site, bee tee dubs).
Starting a book club is easy. If you work in an office, send an email out to your co-workers and see if anyone is interested. Ask your friends who read often if they’d like to start one, or you can join one of the book clubs in your area! Meetup.com is a GREAT place to find groups in your area to join, book clubs included.
But if you live in the L.A. area here’s what CBS said about this amazing book club:
The Los Angeles Dumbledore’s Army! Los Angeles, CA www.meetup.com
Adult geeks come together for fun and discussion. It’s an unofficial fan book club centered on fanciful works like “Star Wars” and “Star Trek,” including “Lord of the Rings” and the more recent “Hunger Games.” Started in 2009, the group originally began as a “Harry Potter” fan club, but it soon realized that the genre could be expanded and explored in many directions. The Los Angeles Dumbledore’s Army takes a less-than-serious look at popular literature; it’s all about fun!
Even though it says we take a “less-than-serious” look at popular literature, we actually do take our fandoms quite seriously…we just don’t forget that fandoms are all about FUN! And the LADA ALWAYS brings the fun!
So, get out there and go read a book! You’ll be glad you did!
