Today is the mastermind behind the Muppets birthday. That’s right Jim Henson’s birthday is today. Jim would have been 77 today. And I have to admit I miss the man. I’d never met him, but I grew up with the Muppets. The original series aired in the late 70’s and early 80’s when I was a kid and I never. missed. an. episode. I’ve seen them all. I even have some of them on….VHS! (That’s really old DVD’s for you youngsters out there.)
There’s no doubting that Jim Henson was a frikkin’ genius. He and his epic buddy Frank Oz, made some of the most beloved and iconic characters in entertainment history. I don’t think I could honestly pick a favorite Muppet if I tried. They all have special places in my heart, from Kermit to Piggy from Oscar to Snuffleupagus from Dozers to Gobo. They have all spent special places in my heart, and I miss watching The Muppets on TV.
In honor of Jim’s birthday, please share with me your favorite Muppets or Muppet moments. There are so many I can’t pick a favorite, but here are a couple for all the geeks out there.
Happy Birthday, Jim. You are missed.
