On a chillin’ Wednesday night, I took the train to South Pasadena for some wine and song.
I went to Firefly Bistro to listen to Aaron & Jane play their music, because I had met Jane briefly (through the Harry Potter group aforementioned in this blogsite), and she had told me about aaronandjanemusic.com so it piqued my interest. I must admit, I went in blind (deaf?), so that I could take in their sound as a fresh new thing. I wanted to sip on wine while listening to music that I’d never heard before. I wanted to be pleased by the brand-new.
Aaron & Jane far exceeded any expectations I could have possibly ever had! Their sound is a mellow tune filled with a lot of heart. What truly makes their performance(s) special, is the way they entice you and your eardrums by bouncing their talents off of each other in a musical combination that is both generous and remarkable.
Aaron & Jane are self-described as “opposite individuals” that blend “different musical and artistic backgrounds”. (Jane is classically-trained. Aaron is self-taught.)
Aaron Therol… sings, and plays the guitar. Jane Kim… also sings, and plays the cello.
They sing of hardship, broken love, and feeling forlorn. They also sing of hope, perseverance, and togetherness.
When Aaron sings, his voice presents you with a nice melancholy that you can easily relate to, while at the same time strumming a soothing vibe from his guitar. His songs are like a comfort zone.
Jane joins him with the cello, expertly played to achieve a string of musical emotions that seamlessly attach themselves to Aaron’s voice, to form a beautiful symbiotic song. When she sings, she exudes serenity.
I think these two musicians are pretty exceptional; and that they have achieved a successful fusion of their diverse talents/sounds. The best part of Aaron & Jane is the “&”.
I know a fair review must include constructive criticism, but I was so highly entertained by their music, that I don’t seem to have anything bad to say about Aaron & Jane.
Go ‘Like’ their Facebook page and then go see one of their shows (and/or buy their music on iTunes!) … I think you’ll like it. A good number of patrons at Firefly visited Aaron & Jane’s table to praise them with words like: “inspiring”, “enjoyable”, and “gorgeous”.
